Program Notes
Ouverture for Wind Band
This piece was written for the Amsterdamse Tramharmonie for the occasion of their 110th anniversary. It combines a selection of classic songs from Amsterdam and takes the thematic material from these and merges them into a festive overture. Not as a medley, but as a piece on its own using material anyone from Amsterdam knows and loves. The piece was first performed in Carrè Amsterdam on the 28th of May 2016.
Songs included are: "Geef mij maar Amsterdam", "Mens, durf te leven", Zing, vecht, huil, bid, lach, werk en bewonder", "Aan de Amsterdamse grachten" en "(Dans le port d')Amsterdam".
